Alicia Griswold
Book artist, painter, and writer Alicia Griswold explores painting, language, and book arts to develop a path that marries the visual with the literary.
As a book-maker, she focuses on creating sketchbooks that customers will use rather than display or save for “when I’m good enough.” To this end, she uses Canson 90-pound watercolor paper, strong enough to work in but not so precious that a beginner or sketch artist will fear “ruining it.” Her “module” origami wreaths are great as lightweight holiday ornaments as well as candle holders (if you’re using battery-operated candles!).
These pieces are made with heavy-weight, mixed-media paper and are stained in a variety of colors using dry pigments activated by water. Her cards and paintings are watercolor on Arches paper. Alicia is a New York (Long Island) native who has made Atlanta her home since 1976.
